Hi! I was looking through Magica De Spell’s Wikipedia page today and it says that Magica has a sister named the Wicked Witch of the West, who has children named Witch Child and Warlock. I couldn’t find any information of them online so I was wondering if you knew anything about them, if they exist at all.
If they don’t, do you think you could instead do a character post on Magica’s cousin Matilda? Your old family tree posts helped me a lot in understanding Duck lore.
Aw I'm glad those posts help!! I'm still down for making them 'cause it's a lot of fun for me to find old comics and do some research.
Tumblr media
So before I talk about Witch Child, I wanna clarify some things that are relevant to the character.
This is another case where Americans can't stop themselves from taking "sister" and "aunt" literally. Aunt can be used to refer to any older woman in someone's life. Sister is frequently used in stories about witches (because a coven is like a sisterhood/sorority, it's a whole thing). Neither imply blood relation! Even "cousin" is often used to refer to friends/neighbors. Different cultures and languages treat words like that very differently than Americans do.
Witch Child, Warlock, & Witch of the West are all from a very specific time period of Brazilian duck comics where Magica and Madam Mim (from The Sword and the Stone) were living together/dating/???? and interacted with other Disney movie characters. In this specific timeline, the ducks live amongst regular humans which is very strange but you just gotta accept it. Magica also lives in Duckburg I think? It seems like she and Scrooge just run into each other randomly so I believe she and Mim have a house in Duckburg for whatever reason
"Witch Child" is not her name and I don't know why she's referred to like that on InDucks/other wikias. Her name in Brazil (where she was created) is Magali, in Italian she's Maghetta/Maghina/Streghella (inconsistent names in translations are very common), and in French she's Seraphine. None of her comics have an official English publication so again idk where "Witch Child" comes from! But I'll probably refer to her as Streghella for the remainder of this post 'cause it's easier that way.
OKAY now for details:
In Streghella's first comic, Magica gets a letter from a friend asking her and Madam Mim to babysit her friend's daughter. Streghella is whiny and rude and a troublemaker. She ruins a magical career opportunity for Magica and it's pretty funny
Tumblr media
Then there's a whole bunch of comics where she just appears for no reason, making trouble. She's a surprisingly powerful witch but she just loves to piss everyone off, especially Mim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another important note about Streghella - she was only really drawn by two comic artists during the height of her appearances (in the 70s, pretty much). The above drawings were all done by an artist named Jim Fletcher. But she had a lot of appearances drawn by an artist named Glenn Schmitz, who drew her completely differently.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't know if I would've realized these were even the same character if it wasn't documented lol but y'know they didn't have the same resources in the 70s that we have now so they did what they could.
Anyway, from what I can tell her personality stayed mostly in tact through most of these comics. Whiny, stuck-up, nosy, but also very funny and magically powerful. She would occasionally interact with Scrooge or HDL but mostly her appearances were in Magica and Mim comics.
Oh there's one comic where she looks like this for some reason?
Tumblr media
BUT THEN what's interesting is Streghella making a few appearances years after her comics all came out. First there was one comic in 1995, then twice in 2011 and once more in 2016. There's also apparently a 2020 appearance but I couldn't get my hands on it :(
In her 1995 appearance she looks really cute but her personality is, well. Personality-wise she's completely unrecognizable. Now Magica makes comments about Streghella always trying to be good and getting in trouble for being good all the time.
(Ignore the bad english translation I was just popping pages into google translate lol)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She's still a troublemaker in the sense that she tries to trick Magica and Mim into consuming a potion that will make them good, kind people. But then the comic ends with Magica doing something nice by choice and it's cute but yeah the character is nothing like her original self.
Her first 2011 comic is where she...wants to go to a Jonas Brothers concert and chats with April May & June online to try and make it happen. Something like that. It follows along with "Streghella is too kind and Magica tries to teach her to be evil" from the '95 comic, but for some reason the colorist made Streghella a brunette. Idk! They also forgot her iconic hat!
Tumblr media
Next 2011 comic has Huey Dewey and Louie accidentally traveling to a magic academy. It's very Harry Potter-y? I guess? Streghella is friendly and does some magic. You can tell it's her 'cause of the pigtails and bows. But still no hat :(
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In her 2016 appearance, she's been reading April May and June's blog and wants to help them with some problem. Magica is like no be mean and Streghella's like no I want to help! You get it.
Tumblr media
This comic is pretty fun. Magica turns herself into Grandma Duck and puts a truth potion into some cake Streghella bakes for the Duck Family and gets a bunch of secrets out of them.
Tumblr media
There's also a joke at the end where Daisy accidentally reveals Brigitta's age to everyone (we don't get to see it) but according to this comic, Brigitta is much older than she looks lol Not that we didn't already know that.
Anyway so that's all there is to know about Witch Child/Streghella. She's cute!
Warlock time!
Warlock is Streghella's brother. He's only in four comics total and they're mostly very early comics - his real name is just whatever Streghella's name was at the time but with an -o at the end. If she's Maghetta, he's Maghetto. If she's Maghina, he's Maghino. You get it. He'd probably be Streghello if he had a named appearance more recently.
Tumblr media
His personality is not very distinct from Streghella's. He's also magical and a troublemaker. In his first comic he arrives in the mail, in a, like...little jail cell? Crate? Idk? And then Magica and Mim eventually box both kids up into the crate and ship them away.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(Yes that's supposed to be him, apparently.)
He appears in the magic school comic as well...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that's it! There's not really anything else to know about him.
Last but not least...the Witch of the West! Actually, that's a lie. Least. She appears just the one time. And I'm gonna be honest. I don't think she's the biological mother of these bird children.
Tumblr media
'Cause yeah she's a human witch. Idk if she's from another Disney property or if she's supposed to be the witch from the Wizard of Oz. Idk man. But Streghella calls her "mama" and she refers to Streghella as her daughter so I'll take those ones literally.
There's nothing much to say about her - she doesn't have a name and all she does is drop her kid off with Magica and then reappear when Mim and Magica threaten to lock Streghella inside a bottle.
NOW if you're wondering...how do these characters connect to the previously known characters that are related to Magica De Spell?
They do not! The fact that Streghella has made a few recent appearances means you can decide how you want her to fit in, but trying to blend these different canons will not be seamless. You just gotta take what you like. Streghella frequently refers to herself as Magica's apprentice so you can always take that route, too.
Aaaaaaaaaand since you asked, I'm happy to talk about Matilda! God there are too many Matildas in duck comics. I have never met a woman named Matilda in my life. It's fine.
Matilda De Spell (not an official name but I call her that anyway) - Magica's teenage cousin! Is she actually, biologically, Magica's cousin? Probably not. But it's fiiiiiiine.
I did actually scanlate all three comics that Matilda appears in, so you can read them if you'd like:
There's not really anything to know about her outside of these comics. She's tomboyish, spunky, fun. Really looks up to Magica. I think their dynamic is fun and I always like to see more teen characters lol I think I've portrayed Matilda as Amelia De Spell's younger sister but that's definitely not canon, just me trying to stick the blondes together.
Anyway sorry this ended up being such a long response. I haven't had the opportunity to research random duck characters in a while. I hope this has the answers you wanted :)

Scrooge McDuck and Magica De Spell with kids - Dimeshipping - Happy Late Easter and Happy Mother's Day - Duck comics - Duckverse - Gift for my friend
Even though it passed, I did this for Orthodox Easter as well as for Mother's Day, and certainly so that Magica De Spell would not be neglected since she is the aunt in the comics to Minima, Streghella and Matilda. I did this in my own style and for my friends who love this couple.
Certainly to all who are Orthodox (especially those who celebrate according to the Julian calendar and who celebrate after the Jewish Passover) who live in Palestine, Syria, Egypt, Armenia, Greece, Serbia, Cyprus, Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Romania, Georgia, Ukraine, Montenegro, North Macedonia and to all Orthodox people living around the world, I wish you a happy Easter! Christ is risen! Христос васкресе!
If someone asks me, yes, it is celebrated differently among the Orthodox and differently among the Catholics and Protestants, so it turned out to be a completely different Easter this year. Don’t worry, there will be a joint Easter next year. So Orthodox Easter fell on this day. The day he was crucified and died, resurrected and defeated death and the devil and proved that there is eternal life for all of us who believe. Glory to Jesus Christ who died for all of us sinners and rose again for all of us to save us!
Yes, Scrooge and Magica are usually enemies, but in some cases they are very much together, even though they do not show love to each other, and their quarrel reminds me a lot of the relationship between Donald and Daisy. And since I made drawings related to Dimeshipping before, I drew the same, but as an Easter version, and related to Mother's Day. Yes, Magica is a bad parent in some ways, but there are still moments in the comics (Italian comics) where she treats her nieces well, especially Minima De Spell and Streghella De Spell, and then there's her younger cousin Matilla De Spell. On the other hand there is Scrooge with Donald's nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck who often accompany Scrooge on adventures. Well, certainly Scrooge and Magica with children make a good family, at least in my opinion. And then there's Ratface, who's dressed as the Easter Bunny. Poor him, Minima is to blame for that. And that I love, this couple, so don't blame me for that.
I hope you like this drawing and support this couple and this family and feel free to like and reblog this, and please don't copy these same ideas without mentioning me! Happy Easter and Mother's Day! This is definitely my gift for lovers of this couple, as well as for my friends @monkey-li @monkey-li-reblogs and @okaystoptellingmetomakeanaccount and I hope you like this gift for you! :D

Explaining my ducktales au part1 - Magica's family tree
Magica obviously has a brother, Poe as in canon however Poe in my au has 2 daughters, Minima De Spell and Streghella De Spell. The mother of these children is a peahen (peacock) who Poe was arranged to marry by his parents, they got divorced shortly after Minimas birth. Magica and Poe have 3 cousins 2 of which they were in contact with before Poe was cursed. The cousins names are Adelia, Matilda (from there father's side) and Abrazella(mothers side). They were in contact with Abrazella and Adelia whilst Matilda cut contact with everyone and left for the fairy realm.
After Poe had been cursed into a crow and was declared missing his daughters stayed with Magica, Streghella being 19 and Minima being 17, as they all looked for Poe. They left however when Magica's priorities changed to revenge causing Magica to be even more secluded. Minima, age 37, is currently a librarian in duckburg living with Rita Gearloose and her son Newtown Gearloose (Gyros family, Rita's a oc). Streghella, age 39, is currently living in mervana after using her magic to make her one of them.
Lena is different from the rest for obvious reasons. She was created in Magica's shadow and was named a De Spell gifting her powers of her own as any other, she was adopted by the Saber wing family and is now officially one of them. She recently found out about Poe from Louie in my au and is currently finding a way to find him and turn him back which causes her to find out about his daughters and her supposed sisters/cousins.

Scrooge McDuck and Magica De Spell - Christmas Kiss - Dimeshipping - Duckverse
Not a Christmas request, but certainly my gift for my friend @monkey-li @monkey-li-reblogs, who is a fan of the love couple Scrooge and Magica, and also related to Christmas and New Year. And I also love this love couple or Dimeshipping.
I drew Scrooge McDuck and Magica De Spell kissing under the mistletoe as a Christmas tradition, and above them are Donald's naughty and clever nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie, Magica's nieces Minima, Streghella and Matilda De Spell, watching them, and there is Ratface, Magic's raven. The real McDuck-De Spell family. He found inspiration in certain drawings of duck kisses. My only apology is that the frame of my drawing is visible, because I had to take a photo so that all the characters fit in one drawing. I hope you like my gift.
Also Happy Holidays to everyone celebrating! Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Holidays!

A beautiful drawing and a beautiful McDuck-Duck-De Spell family together. This reminds me a bit of this picture:
Tumblr media
But this is definitely beautiful. Like it. Great and adorable artwork and I love that Magica and Scrooge are together with their nieces and nephews together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
DONE. OMG it took me so long lol. The triplets are a horror to draw. I searched the comics for walking poses.
Happy extended family ♥♥♥
Streghella is my favorite niece of Magica (and I would say hers aswell), so she has the honour to ride piggyback with Scrooge ^^
Minima turned out a bit to small. Oh well, its cute.
You can read my favorite story with Streghella here I translated it ♥

Magica de Spell and Morgana Macawber making magic potions - Witch School - Duckverse and Darkwing Duck - Gift for my friend
I should have done this earlier, but for some reason I didn't manage until now, but I'm definitely posting a new drawing that my friend requested me to do.
I drew Magica de Spell and Morgana Macawber, famous duck witches who work together to make magic potions and teach their female students how to master them. Yes, usually Magica and Morgana were rivals, as Magica is an evil witch who wants the One Dime, while Morgana is a good witch, though sometimes bad when it comes to business and their conflict is explained in more detail in the Darkwing Duck comics (especially by James Silvani).
However, they can also be good partners regarding their common interests. So I drew them together throwing powder and casting a spell on making new potions. Apart from them, there are also Minima De Spell (Magica's niece) hugging Ratface (poor him, Magica's pet crow by the way), Streghella de Spell (also Magica's niece and a student at the witch school), Paperelfo (Magica's apprentice assistant), Hocus and Pocus (Magica's students who go to school for witches, mostly appearing in Egmont comics), Roberta (Magica de Spell's best friend and partner in evil spells, appearing in Italian comics), Witch Hazel (you know her from Trick or Treat, but she is also a friend of Magica and Madam Mim from the comics), Madam Mim (you know her from The Sword in the Stone, but she often appears in Donald Duck comics, as a friend of Magica De Spell), Poe De Spell (brother Magica de Spell who appeared in the Ducktales 1987 version as a crow) and Aunt Nasty (Morgana's aunt). I mostly combined from the OG Ducktales, Darkwing Duck and Donald Duck comics, but in my own way.
I hope you like this drawing and the set of witches as well as the witch school as well as the crossover of Ducktales, Duck comics and Darkwing Duck, although to me it's all the same universe, no matter how much someone thinks otherwise. By the way, this is a gift for my friend, who asked for this, @boingodigitalart. Feel free to like and reblog this, just don't use my same ideas without crediting me. Thank you!

I have a curiosity as I'm rethinking the fics I have planned, especially the De Spell ones.
Do you guys think they should all have a redemption arc? Or can't they all be saved?
De Spell affiliation (during their debut):
Adelia = Neutral Abrazella = Neutral Matilda "Tilly" = Neutral (tending to bad) Harpertte = Neutral Streghella = Neutral Minima = Neutral (????) Nona or Granny De Spell = Bad (What?)
As for Abner, I have already planned a maturation arc for him, related to being a father and being away from his family for so long, so with him I am already assured.

I like the tragedy, angst, “will he won’t she” dynamic, too. One thing I’d like to point out though is that this version of Goldie was a store owner. She ran a business in the middle of a frozen nowhere before the Gold Rush on her own. A single, beautiful woman with a reputation for being “the Ice Queen.” I may be wrong but I took that to mean she was so strong willed and strong minded, nobody dared to mess with her, just like with Scrooge, only in her case, it’s more admirable because women back then were not expected to be able to survive on their own outside of a home, especially not in a remote locale where anything could go wrong.
She took Soapy Slick’s offer to upgrade her store into a ballroom to bring in more money, and employ some of the locals who ended up sticking around instead of following the gold panners and trappers further inland. She rebuilt the ballroom after it burned to the ground more than once! She was fine running things on her own until the town became a ghost town, and the money stopped coming in.
She could have followed the tourists and money and tried to start over elsewhere. She did tell Scrooge she helped care for some orphans after a mining accident (which was an incident that happened in real life). We can surmise that Dickie Duck’s mom was one of those orphans if we want. (There are a lot of characters who share Dickie’s basic personality traits and general appearance such as Matilda De Spell, Streghella/Nocina/Maghella/Witch Child? De Spell, so I did not get attached to her.) We know she fell on hard time sometime before or after taking in Blackjack the bear, and that she was malnourished and getting dangerously thin before Scrooge remembered the claim. With a little bit of money back in her pocket, she bounced back to the same “glittering” damsel of the old days, but with the wisdom and patience of an older woman.
Why I Love Rosa’s Scrooge and Goldie Romance the Most
Tumblr media
Veering completely out of my lane for this particular blog, but. I’ve always been a huge fan of Don Rosa’s portrayal of Scrooge McDuck and Goldie O’Gilt. I know some wanna deem them “problematic”, and they are indeed less than perfect - which is one of the reasons I am a sucker for their dynamic. They ruined their own chances at a healthy relationship by being too stubborn, too selfish, and too callous with one another.
Now, with that said, as much as I understand Scrooge’s choice not to open the letter Goldie had sent him - conditioned to expect the worst, and thus willfully choosing to cast aside the note in favour of telling himself Goldie might have loved him.
We, the audience, know that she does and thus it hurts all the more that he would believe he could never earn her fancy. We understand why he doesn’t read the message, despite the fact that he ought to and it might have made him happier than his eventual fortune ever could.
As much as that hurts; Goldie’s side of things is ever more bitter.
Imagine pouring your heart out to the man you love, being dead certain he will return if he only gets to read the letter in which your confessions are penned - only for him never to return. Imagine waiting, pining, longing, anticipating. Imagine the days turning to months, to years, to decades. And he never comes. He read the letter, yet he never comes back for you.
So, while Scrooge’s inherent self doubt and low self esteem (his I’m nothing unless I make money and become someone worth admiring mantra) - I believe Goldie took it the hardest. She was the saloon girl, with all the implications behind the profession at the time, and she was turned down by the one man she believed could see past her flaws and what she must have believed had - as a sordid past of sorts - tainted her value as a reputable woman.
Scrooge, who couldn’t care less for Goldie’s social standing or past once he noted what a diligent and hardworking woman she was and what she had sacrificed to get where she was.
Goldie, who couldn’t care less for Scrooge’s empty wallet and stubborn attitude once getting past his rough exterior to the softer core.
They could have made a great couple, their differences and pigheadedness set aside. Instead, they spent fifty years believing the other didn’t love them back; worn down by unrequited love. That’s why their story is so compelling to me, as it is presented in the comics by Don Rosa.
Does that mean I don’t like any other Goldie and Scrooge portrayals? Absolutely not, but the tragedy makes the Rosa (and consequently Barks’) iteration my favourite. I like the tragedy, the chaos, the trauma, the deep seated sadness of it all. Is it dysfunctional? Perhaps, but it’s fiction. And I prefer deep, layer characters that are morally gray above strict whites and blacks.
Also, the drama is on another level - and I find, the older I get, the more I enjoy Rosa’s works (although I did as a teen as well) because of their slightly more mature angle, and the more mature themes. The same reason I enjoy Tintin, I’d recon.

Which design did you like the most?
I plan to do a redesign of the De Spell, as I feel it can be better as I did 3 years ago.
Here are the first designs I made of them (well, Adelia's was the second one, but I want to make a nicer dress).

It’d be hilarious (a.k.a. heartbreaking) to find out the rest of Magica’s family isn’t criminally insane.
The De Spells are creepy and kooky and may swim in the dark arts, but they’re genuinely good people who love each other immensely.
Lena is born of shadows? Congratulations! Your great-great-great-great Grandmama Olga birthed shadow triplets because she didn’t have an heir.
It’s how the De Spell family keeps going strong.
They’re not evil either. They’re morally ambiguous. They do what pleases them, and spreading death and destruction doesn’t please them as much as it used to.
Just want to have fun and love each other.
Magica De Spell is indeed the black sheep in a family of black sheep. They were disappointed and hurt, but they were heartbroken to discover they had a little darling they never knew about, who was raised in terrible conditions.
Give me alchemist Uncle Poe who showers Lena in love and affection and makes arrangements with Scrooge and Beakley to visit her, because they’re her family now, and Poe is happy for that.
